Paris - along with London, Rome, New York, and perhaps a few others - is one of the world’s great mythological cities. Her name conjures up a host of images and associations - from the Gothic spires of Notre Dame to the novels of Balzac and Zola to snatches of wartime songs and elegant haute couture .
